Counseling/ Career Center
COUNSELING

The purpose of counseling is to:

  1. Assist the student in evaluating credits previously earned and in planning a program of study.
  2. Provide the student with personal and educational guidance.
  3. Assist the student to focus on the future: post graduate education or world of work.
Parent involvement in the school process is important to student success, so new students must have a parent or legal guardian with them when enrolling at El Camino. Parents are encouraged to contact the school to check on their student's progress. The home will be contacted if there are problems. The counselor will highlight the opportunities available for academic and personal success at El Camino. Students can expect to find an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding when discussing problems with their counselor.

Incoming students meet with the counselor and work out their educational plan. After that, when a students wishes to see the counselor, he/she fills out a BLUE CARD.

GROUP COUNSELING

Group counseling is provided by non-profit agencies and led by their group counselor. The active counseling groups currently held at El Camino High School are SPIRITT & Straight Talk Counseling Services. Students may be elected to attend upon request.

CAREER COUNSELING

Students will receive career counseling in the classroom and in the Career Center. The outline of the school district's high school career plan will be followed in the classroom and in the Career Center.

CAREER CENTER

The Career Center staff provides services for students which include work experience and vocational counseling and vocational interest and aptitude testing. The Career Center is a resource center for career, trade school, college and military service information.
