WHO ATTENDS EL CAMINO

El Camino High School provides alternative education for the students of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. The school is located eighteen miles southeast of metropolitan Los Angeles in the city of Whittier, which is also part of the school district. El Camino High School has been awarded the status of a Model Continuation High School as of May 2005.

Few students live in the immediate neighborhood; most are bused to the schools from the cities of Norwalk and La Mirada. A few rely on the public transit system. El Camino serves John Glenn and Norwalk High Schools, in the city of Norwalk, and La Mirada High School, in the La Mirada community. It also receives students who transfer from other continuation high schools.

APPLICATION TO RETURN TO COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOL

You may apply to your former counselor for return to a comprehensive high school at the end of each semester. The criteria for transfer are:

  1. Sufficient credits earned at ECHS to permit proper programming in the Comprehensive High School.
  2. A record of good attendance and citizenship at ECHS.

Three weeks prior to the end of the semester, students may apply for review for consideration to return to the comprehensive high school. The review would be based on all criteria that demonstrate a successful return. Upon recommendation of the counselor, students must schedule an appointment with the appropriate comprehensive high school and may be denied pending failure to meet criteria.
